The 150-year-old Filyos Valley Project, known as the “dream” of the Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamid II and which was also covered in the report “General Manufacturing in Anatolia” is in progress at a great pace.
Within the scope of the project, Turkey’s first mega-industrial zone and a free zone on 1,166 hectares will be established on 597 hectares. In the port with a capacity of 25 million tons, there will be a dry cargo area, container yard, multi-purpose warehouse, buildings and parking lots, bulk cargo area, entrance and service areas, railway lines, roads, and other auxiliary units. The project also includes an expansion area of 620 hectares.
It is underlined that the Filyos Port, located on the north-south axis, could be of great importance for the Chinese Silk Road. Thanks to its geostrategic location, Turkey is expected to have an important role as a playmaker between Central Asia and Europe.
