MİLGEM Corvette Herman İvan Mazepa (F-211), built for the Ukrainian Navy with STM A.Ş. as the main contractor, has been launched with a ceremony.
Turkish and Ukrainian authorities had signed an agreement on 14 December 2020 for the supply of a MİLGEM ADA Class Corvette. The agreement in G2G format had been signed in Ukraine by the Presidency Head of Defense Industry Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir and STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz.
In that scope, less than 2 years after the agreement, the MİLGEM Corvette Herman İvan Mazepa (F-211) built for the Ukrainian Navy was launched today with a ceremony. The launching ceremony of the corvette was attended by the Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska, Ukrainian Naval Forces Commander Oleksiy Neizhpapa and other Ukrainian representatives.
From Turkiye, the ceremony was participated by the Ministry of National Defense Hulusi Akar, Presidency Head of Defense Industry Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir, STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz, HAVELSAN General Manager Mehmet Akif Nacar and other representatives.
Ukraine is known to have ordered a total of 4 MİLGEM Corvettes to Turkiye, of which 1 is definite and 3 are optional. Actually, the corvette would be built in Turkiye and the outfitting be carried out in Ukraine. Plans were that the launched corvette would be towed to Ukraine and the outfitting work would start in the Ocean Shipyard in Mikolayiv. However, the outfitting activities also will most probably be carried out in Turkiye due to the war that started between Ukraine and Russia in February.
The Ukrainian MİLGEM 2
