Signing the world’s first tugboat working with LNG, the first autonomous tugboat and the first hydraulic hybrid tugboat projects, Sanmar Shipyard now signs a memorandum of understanding with Corvus Energy for the development of a zero emission and hybrid tugboat.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between Corvus Energy and Sanmar Shipyard at the European Tug Owners Association (ETA) meeting held in Turku, Finland. Under the agreement, the two companies will develop a new series of zero-emission and hybrid tugboats based on the Robert Allan design. The new tugboat series is planned to have a barrier bollard pull with a range of 30-70 tons.
The two companies will collaborate on the integration of innovative, cost-effective, new energy supply systems and fuel cell technology for electric and hybrid tugboats at Sanmar Shipyard’s facilities in Turkey. Corvus Energy will contribute to work in the fields of battery and fuel cell technology, sizing and battery chamber design, power system and fuel interfaces.
