The first zero emission and fully electrical tugboat of Canada, built in Türkiye by the Turkish shipbuilding company Sanmar, was delivered in the city of Vancouver.
The tugboat delivered by Sanmar is intended to give services in the liquefied natural gas export terminal ‘LNG Canada’ located in Kitimat city of the state of British Columbia. Sanmar Chairman of the Board Ali Gürün stated that they will have delivered four other tugboats during this year. Sanmar also has signed an agreement with ‘KOTUG Canada’, which provides a broad range of towing and shipping services across Canada, for two escort tugboats to be the first methanol-fueled vessels in the world.

Built in Sanmar’s shipyard in İstanbul and named “Haisea Wamis”, the tugboat will give services in the liquefied natural gas export terminal ‘LNG Canada’ located in Kitimat city of the state of British Columbia.
Sanmar Chairman of the Board Ali Gürün said in his comment that they will be delivering four other tugboats this year, two being electrical and two having hybrid diesel engines.
Gürün said:
“The delivery of Haisea Wamis represents a huge step on the way to sustainable and ecofriendly tugboat and towing industry. We are proud of leading the way in close cooperation with our partners in order to put innovative ideas into practice with the help of technological advancements. This project is enormously significant, not only for us but also for our industry as a whole.”
Ali Gürün stated that they also have signed an agreement with ‘KOTUG Canada’, which provides a broad range of towing and shipping services across Canada, for two escort tugboats to be the first methanol-fueled vessels in the world.
Gürün added that, once the project for increasing the capacity of Trans Mountain Petroleum Pipeline is completed, the tugboats will be serving the tankers that will approach the crude oil export dock.
