The “Regulation on the Promotion of New Shipbuilding Instead of Turkish Flagged Scrap Vessels” prepared for fostering the rejuvenation of the Turkish marine trade fleet was published in the Official Gazette and entered into force.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure will support the building of new ships, instead of scrap ships that are used in commercial freight transport to encourage the renewal of the Turkish marine trade fleet and the development of effective, safe, and sustainable transportation in international waters and coasting trade that is harmless to the marine environment.
New ship incentives will be available for liquid bulk carriers, dry bulk carriers, container ships, general cargo vessels (mixed cargo) and special-purpose vessels aged over 20 years and between 1,000 GT and 5,000 GT, that are used in commercial freight transport and registered in the National Shipping Register or the Turkish International Shipping Register.
After the regulation has been published, foreign-flagged vessels that are registered in the National Shipping Register or the Turkish International Shipping Register will be able to benefit from the incentive after being registered for 6 months.
