The first of the 4 MILGEM corvettes to be built by Turkey for the Ukrainian Navy was laid on the slipway at a ceremony held at RMK Marine.
Undertaken by STM as the main contractor and including the technology transfer as well, it has been informed that the remaining corvettes shall be built in Ukraine.
Stating that the first MILGEM corvette of the Ada class started to be built for the Ukrainian Navy is continuing in accordance with the calendar, Ukrainian Defense Minister Andrey Taran said that the trial cruise will begin in 2023.
Taran continued his words as follows “The building technology will be gradually transferred to Ukrania according to the contract. All subsequent corvettes will be built at Ukrainian facilities. These warships will significantly strengthen the defense of Ukraine in the Azov, Black Sea region, in the long term”.
