Cemre Shipyard launched the NB1091 Double Ended Ro-Ro Passenger and Vehicle Ferry, built for Norwegian passenger transportation company Torghatten Nord, at a ceremony held at its facilities in Yalova on Wednesday, December 6.
Designed by Norwegian Ship Design, the ferry shall be able to operate with zero emissions during its 1-hour transit on the Lødingen – Bognes route in northern Norway. The ferry is designed to run on battery electricity from the grid onshore via high-capacity automatic charging connections. When shore power is not available, biodiesel generators shall be able to provide enough power for the ferry to operate normally, and at 13-14 knots, it will be among the fastest moving ferries among Norwegian battery ferries.
The double-ended ferry is equipped with two independent propulsion and power systems so that in case of fire or flooding, at least one of them remains operational. The ferry has a length of 117 meters with a capacity of 399 passengers and shall show and post the Norwegian flag in accordance with DNV class rules.
