The Netherlands-based short haul maritime transportation operator Longship ordered Atlas Shipyard 4 pieces of ‘ultra-low emission’ 8.600 DWT general cargo vessel.
The company reported that they have developed an innovative vessel design with a diesel-electrical drive system that allows for about 45 percent reduction in consumption.
The vessels shall have a design optimized for the transportation of biomass solid fuels.
A net hatch clearance of “81,9 m” is envisaged which is suitable for bulk loads and project loads.
Longship said that the hybrid drive system can be adopted to operate on alternative fuels.
The first unit shall be delivered in spring 2024 and have the class notation of ‘Prepared for Methanol C’.
Longship CEO Øyvind Sivertsen commented on the topic as follows,
“It is our corporate goal to significantly reduce emissions and carbon intensity at the same time when offering logistics solutions to our clients”, he said.
