Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey has brought a new arrangement in order to increase navigational safety, life, property, and environmental safety in Bosphorus and Dardanelles.
With the arrangement put into effect by the Ministry of Transport, General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, the definition of “vessel carrying dangerous cargo” was redefined.
Vessels carrying petrol and petroleum products, vessels carrying a nitrate-based load, vessels carrying the acids and compounds, vessels carrying liquefied gas in bulk, vessels carrying bulk hazardous chemical load and vessels that use Bosphorus and Dardanelles After discharging these loads in Turkey were included in the scope of dangerous cargo transportation.
In the letter sent to the seafarers on the subject; It was emphasized that the dangerous cargo should be reported clearly and accurately through the captains or authorized agents of the vessels wishing to pass through the Straits.
In cases of failure to comply with the notification obligation or the notifications do not contain accurate information, administrative fines will be imposed on the vessels and their agents. In addition, the vessel will lose its passage order through the Straits. Within the scope of the Ship Agencies Regulation, the activities of the agencies may also be suspended.
