Breaking a series of recent records in vessel exports, Turkish shipyards are going through a vessel plate crisis in production because of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
Turkish shipyards provide a major part of the plates used in shipbuilding from Ukraine and therefore now experience a big disruption in the supply of plates because of the state of war in the country. Sector representatives await the support of local steel producers in order to overcome this issue.
Commenting on the subject, the President of Vessel, Yacht and Services Exporters’ Association (GYHIB) Cem Seven mentioned that Ukraine was outstanding in plate supply due to its quality, delivery terms and competitive price and continued, “This supply chain is interrupted because of the war. The increase in the price of merchandises across the world had already led to increased prices of end products, and the closure of steel factories in Ukraine came on top of it, which made the metal plate prices hit the ceiling in a very short time. Now we are faced both with the problems of increased prices and late delivery”.
