The Turkish-owned merchant marine fleet has started to rise again for the first time after 2013. The domestic fleet, which achieved an 8.6 percent capacity increase within the first 9 months, almost triplicated the global at the growth.
Turkey, which ranked 15th globally last year with its fleet size, is expected to rise one step further with its new steps.
For the first time in years, Turkish shipowners have been so aggressive in expanding their fleets, invested more in 2021 than in the last two years collected. In trade for the EU, the growth experienced in exports as Turkey’s increased freight advantage against the Far East was also one of the important reasons that increased the investment appetite of shipowners.
