Sanmar has incorporated a new member of its powerful and compact tugboat Deliçay series, the tugboat Deliçay VIII, into its fleet in the Nemrut Gulf.
The design of Deliçay Vlll, like other Sanmar-built tugboats, is marked by the Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd. Deliçay Vlll is a multi-directional Sanmar Z-drive tractor tugboat, dedicated to the TRAktor-Z 2500SX design of Robert Allan.
Deliçay Vlll, having 25.3 meters of length overall and 12 meters of beam mould, is designed for maximum efficiency in both handling and towing of a port vessel. The tugboat, Deliçay Vlll, which is deployed in the Gulf of Nemrut, is powered by two 2,100 kW main engines that enable it to draw a speed ahead of 12 knots and an astonishing bollard pull of 75-ton. Deliçay Vlll has a fuel oil capacity of 84 m3. The wheel housing of the tugboat is designed to provide a maximum viewing range of 360 degrees from the main console on the aft side. Main engine exhaust funnels have been routed to natural blind spots, such as door frames and scuttle rods to eliminate visibility obstacles around the wheel housing circumference. The overhead scuttles and a rotary mast provide top view and the ability to perform operations under the flare of a vessel.
Ali Gürün, the Vice President of Sanmar, stated, “We are very pleased with the performance of the Deliçay class tugboats, as do our international customers. State-of-the-art designs were achieved through comprehensive physical model testing and computed simulations of fluid dynamics; when this is combined with the use of the latest technologies, this means that the bigger pioneers of tugboats can achieve and often exceed the operational capacity.”
Having a special Fi-Fi diesel, Deliçay VIII will join other fleet tugboats of Sanmar, operating in the Nemrut Gulf on the western coast of the Aegean Sea where the tugboat will substitute Boğaçay Xl. The Sanmar fleet operates in major ports on the Turkish coast.
We have been managing the growing traffic of container ship, which will likely continue in the future. The design of a tractor tugboat with two bow thrusters in the midship is ideally suited for such activities with perfect manoeuvrability and power in any direction; its ability to provide strength and force when working on the sides is also a special benefit. We, therefore, increase the number of tugboats in our fleet. Our captains, like our customers, are very satisfied by their possibilities they provide to handle very large vessels.” said Korhan Doruk, the Director of Sanmar Tugboat and Pilotage Services, concerning Deliçay VIII, newly joined to Sanmar fleet.
At present, Sanmar is working on two tugboats, called Deliçay lX and Deliçay Xll, in this renowned class.
