Beşiktaş Shipyard has taken delivery of the floating dock that was purchased from Singapore-based Seatrium Group. The floating dock, which attracted significant attention during its passage through the Suez Canal, will enhance the repair and maintenance capacity of Beşiktaş Shipyard.
A First in the Suez Canal
The 90-metre-wide floating dock made history as the largest floating dock to pass through the Suez Canal. The 85,000-tonne giant dock successfully completed the canal crossing with the assistance of seven tugboats, maintaining a speed limit of 4 knots per hour. This passage, which lasted approximately 24 hours, made an important note in the history of the canal.
Starts Operations in 2025 The floating dock, which has now arrived at the shipyard, is scheduled to commence operations in the first months of 2025, following the completion of maintenance and preparatory activities. This investment by Beşiktaş Shipyard will significantly boost its capacity for repair and maintenance, enhancing its competitiveness in the sector.
