Sanmar Marine delivered the second of 3 full electric tugboats to HaiSea Marine in Canada.
Of HaiSea Marine’s total order of 5 units, 2 are Sanmar-built LNG escort tugs and 3 are electrically powered harbor tugs (HAISEA WAMIS, HAISEA WEE’GIT and HAISEA BRAVE), which will form Canada’s greenest tug fleet. The third electric tug HAISEA BRAVE will be delivered later this year.
HAISEA WEE’GIT is based on Robert Allan Ltd.’s ElectRA 2800SX design, exclusive to Sanmar. The ElectRA 2800SX electric harbor tug, a length of 28.40m, width of 13.00m and draught of 5.9, has a towing force of 70 tons with 6,000 kWh battery power. It will run all its operations solely on battery power and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 10,000 tons per year compared to diesel-powered alternatives, with significant reductions in NOX, SOX, CO and particulate matter.
Ali Gürün, Chairman of the Board of Sanmar Shipping: “The delivery of HAISEA WEE’GIT is an important step on the road to a sustainable, environmentally friendly tug industry like HAISEA WAMIS. The 54-day navigation of the first of these paradigm-shifting tugs from Istanbul to Vancouver was completed successfully. Emission-free harbor tugs are now much easier to access. We, as Sanmar, are happy to be at the forefront of this change. As expected, operators around the world are showing great interest in the ElectRA series.”
Sanmar Denizcilik will deliver a total of 5 more ElectRA series tugs this year, including 2 ElectRA 2300SX series tugs to SAAM Towage, 1 ElectRA 2200SX series tug to Bukser og Berging and 1 ElectRA 2300SX series tug to Sanmar’s own fleet in Türkiye.
