A naming ceremony was held in Edinburgh for five tugs built by Sanmar and operated by Targe Towing Limited.
A naming ceremony for the five tugs built by Sanmar was held on October 1 at the Port of Leith. The naming of the five tugboats took place in a traditional maritime ceremony with the participation of the godmothers.
These tugboats are operated by Targe Towing Limited, a subsidiary of Forth Ports Limited, and are part of a large fleet of tugboats and workboats providing 24-hour towage, emergency response and other services on the UK’s busiest canals, the Forth and Tay rivers, North East Scotland ports and offshore.
The Bishop of Brechin, the Rt Rev Andrew Swift, led the naming of the tugboats Balmerino (ex Delicay IV), Camperdown (ex Delicay XI), Kittiwake (ex Delicay XXVI), Peterel (ex Delicay XXXVIII) and Queensferry (ex Delicay XXXIX) and the tradition of naming a godmother to a vessel was continued.
Representatives of Sanmar Denizcilik and Robert Allan Ltd., who designed and built the tugboats, presented the godmothers of the tugboats with their gifts at the ceremony. Managed by the expert seafarers of Targe Towing and INEOS FPS fleet, these long-lasting tugboats are able to provide many years of service.
“These state-of-the-art tugs showcase the latest technology and significantly enhance the region’s overall towage capacity and emergency response,” Sanmar said in a statement.
