Signatures were put for 3 new Stowage class frigates as part of the National Vessel Project (MİLGEM). The frigates will be built simultaneously in three different private shipyards in 36 months and delivered to the navy.
Domestic and national attempts are in progress in defense industry. In that context, work related to the Stowage class frigates, which are designed to be larger than the Ada class MİLGEM’s, has gained pace. Contracts for 3 frigates were signed yesterday at the Defense Industry Agency with the participation of the President of Defense Industry İsmail Demir. In the project which is planned to be conducted by STM-TAİS joint venture, Anadolu, Sedef and Sefine shipyards will be simultaneously building one İ class frigate in 36 months.
The entire weapon system has local origin
The Stowage class frigates whose entire sensor and weapon system has been developed with national means will also be furnished with national air defense capabilities. Furthermore, nationalization activities will continue in many fields including the several components of Bow Gun, Helicopter Capture System and Main Drive System. All three vessels will be equipped with such national solutions as close air defense system Gökdeniz, three dimensional search radar Cenk-S, fire control radar Akrep, illuminator radar, torpedo tube, National Vertical Launch System MİDLAS, Hisar-D.
Both maritime and air defense
Stowage class frigates are remarkable with their features such as antisubmarine, surface and air defense warfare abilities, execution of outstation activities, exploration, surveillance, target acquisition, diagnosis, recognition and early warning. Having a displacement of 3100 tons, a length of 113 meters and a width of 14.4 meters, the frigates are also differentiated with their capability of air defense guided missile.
