Sanmar Shipyard delivered an ice-breaker tugboat specially designed for Alfons Hakans, a Finnish-based operator, to serve the entire year even in severe sea conditions. The tugboat will serve in the Baltic Sea operations of Alfons Hakans.
The first of the two high-performance ice-breaker tugboats, ordered by Alfons Hakans to Sanmar Shipyard, was successfully delivered. The tugboat, named Selena by the buyer, is designed by the Canadian architect Robert Allan.
The tug boat with a balanced design and high escort performance was equipped with twin Caterpillar 3516C engines. With a fuel capacity of 121 cubic meters and up to 13 knots, Selena is able to carry out many operations, including towage, ice breaking and transfer of small cargo loads.
The tugs, which were undertaken at the end of a contested tender process, were the first major building of a heavy ice-breaker tugboat project for Sanmar. Sanmar successfully delivered the first tugboat under the project and added an ice-class tugboat to its portfolio.
