The industry is no longer discussing the building of autonomous vessels, but the measures to be taken against cyber attacks, ‘big data’ and who will take legal responsibility for trade with these vessels and digital investments in the sector are gaining momentum while there are also improvements in domestic software.
Speaking at the panel at the event, Dr Özkan Poyraz, Former Undersecretary of the Ministry and General Manager of Navis Consulting, pointed out that a future that includes the internet of things, artificial intelligence, robotics and automatic machines awaits the sector and continued his words as follows: “There are trials for autonomous vessels. If we say “1.0” for steamships and sailing ships, perhaps today we should say ‘5.0’ for vessels with intelligent shift systems and intelligent collision avoidance systems. They seem to have reached a little above Industry 4.0”.
