A cooperation agreement has been signed between BOTAŞ, Arkas Holding subsidiary Arkas Oil and Sumitomo Corporation, one of the largest holdings in Japan on use of LNG as fuel in vessels.
According to the statement made by BOTAŞ, the work on the use of environmentally friendly fuels in maritime transport has gained momentum.
This agreement is of great importance due to the new regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) mandating a reduction in the emission rates of fuels to be used on vessels.
The IMO projects that carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by 40 percent by 2030 and by 70 percent by 2050. Therefore, the number of LNG-fueled vessels and LNG bunkering stations is expected to increase in the coming years.
