According to a VesselsValue report, 704 vessels with a total dead weight of 26,4 tons and a total value of $2,7 million USD were sold after being scrapped in 2021. Since 2020, the total number of vessels scrapped has decreased by 20%, and by 26% since 2019.
VesselsValue indicated that despite the fact that 301 tankers were scrapped and sold in 2021, they maintained the lead among all scrapped vessels with a rate of 59 percent.
In contrast to 2020, the growth in tanker scraps increased by 242 percent, according to the VesselsValue report.
Of the 301 tankers scrapped, 112 were delivered to Bangladesh, 84 to India, and 60 to Pakistan. Only 12 of these scrapped tankers were carried to Aliağa. The small tankers comprise the majority of the 166 tankers scrapped in 2021.
